When I heard that OOFOS were bringing out a closed toe shoe, I was really excited. The week they arrived, I had just shredded my poor feet by wearing some awful cardboard-soled shoes for a five mile dog walk (not my brightest moment) so my feet were in pieces.
The OOmg shoes arrived in lovely sturdy packaging, and as soon as I put them on, I made that familiar ‘Aaaaaaaah’ sound as they were so comfortable. I had ordered a size 8, which is my normal shoe size, and they fit perfectly. The upper material hugged my feet comfortably and there were no seams anywhere that could rub. The first thing I noticed about them was that they felt so light.
OOFOS appeal to me as a runner as a recovery shoe as they promise their OOfoam absorbs 37% more shock than other materials, and reduces stress on sore feet, knees and lower back. They certainly feel like walking on air, and I love putting my tired feet into them after a run.
The thing I wasn’t overwhelmed about initially was the colour – I have the grey upper – so I was a bit concerned about getting them dirty, but having taken the dogs on a few walks across muddy fields with them (and had them trampled on by a few excitable larger dogs) and the mud doesn’t stay. The fact they are machine washable is a bonus, but to be honest the mud seems to slide off them, and the soles are quite high off the ground so the uppers don’t tend to get dirty anyway.
They’re so comfortable, I have worn these shoes for a solid month. I’ve walked the dogs in them; I’ve worn them after runs as recovery; I’ve worn them driving to races; I’ve worn them to the beach; I even wore them to an impromptu weight lifting session at the neighbour’s house. As you do. They’re smart enough to wear on the school run, and for a shopping trip, and did I mention how comfortable they are?
The shoes are currently available in ladies’ sizes 4-8 in grey or black. This seems a small colour choice, but given the price point of these shoes I think the neutral colours mean you really do get good value out of them as they go with everything, and you’ll want to wear them all the time. They’re designed to look good without socks, and are really comfortable. They’re also surprisingly warm, despite the porous nature of the upper material, but also let my feet breathe.
As you might have gathered, I LOVE these shoes. You’ll be pleased to hear I threw away the cardboard-soled feet shredders.
